Missa Domini Pastoris (2023)
Missa Domini Pastoris translates to "Mass of the Lord
the Shepherd" and was named because of the title of God as shepherd. I
decided to write a setting of the Mass for my senior capstone project because
of my personal faith. I have been a Christian for 16 years, but in college I
found the Catholic Church and was overwhelmed with truth and beauty. I
joined the church during Easter 2023 and wrote Missa Domini Pastoris as an
expression of my devotion and passion.
Ab Altitudine (2024)
Ab Altitudine was written for the Founders Classical Academy Corinth Chamber Singers under the direction of Noah Wyckoff. The text was taken from Psalm 56:3-4 in Latin and it is about trusting God. This piece was written with interchanging sections of solo harp and choir with harp accompaniment.
Text:
Ab altitudine diei timebo ego vero in te sperabo. In Deo laudabo sermones meos in Deo speravi non timebo quid faciat mihi caro. —Vulgate
When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I am not afraid; what can flesh do to me? —New Revised StandardVersion
Every Sound a Flower (2023)
Every Sound a Flower was written about the life of my patron saint, Saint Hildegard von Bingen. Hildegard was born in 1098 in what is now known as Germany. When she was 15 years old she became a Benedictine nun and later an abbess. She was a mystic, writer, healer, philosopher, composer, and more. Hildegard was extremely influential in the building up of the church and is now known as a Doctor of the Universal Church. The title and many of the melodies are taken from music by Hildegard.
The Harp Collection (2022)
This collection consists of two short harp solos,
which were inspired by my experiences during college. Music, especially
composition, has always been a way for me to release my emotions, and
these pieces reflect that. "Heartbreak in C Minor" follows the pain of a broken
heart, while "Leaves on a Stream" was named after a grounding exercise
I practice, in which I imagine placing my worries on leaves and watching
them float away on a stream.
Genesis (2023)
Genesis is about the creation of the world, going through the account in Genesis chapter one from the Bible using real world and synthetic sounds.
The piece starts with “the beginning” with a trinity motif then transitions into separating the light from darkness, the fall of some of the angels. Then it transitions into water, vegetation, stars, birds & fish, legged creatures, and humankind. The trinity motif comes back at the end to represent rest.
