Why this site?

My patron saint is Hildegard Von Bingen (composer, mystic, healer, writer, philosopher, visionary, and more) and if she has taught me anything it is that you don't have to do just one thing. This website showcases many of my interests.

About Me

Halie Douglas is a harpist, composer, arranger, and teacher based in Denton, Texas. She is from Odessa, Texas where she learned to play the harp and now currently attends the University of North Texas and is pursuing a Bachelor of Music Composition with a concentration in harp and will graduate in May 2024. Halie studies harp under Dr. Jaymee Haefner and has studied composition with Dr. Sungji Hong, Dr. Zvony Gnosh, and Dr. Kirsten Soriano Broberg. She enjoys writing for harp ensemble, solo harp, and sacred music among other genres and instruments.

Halie started playing the harp in the 6th grade and fell in love, eventually getting into composing for the harp and deciding to pursue a composition degree. Some of her favorite and most inspirational composers are Henriette Renie and Claude Debussy. Some of her most well-known pieces include Every Sound a Flower for solo harp and In Amorem Incideris for harp trio. In addition to harp music, Halie is composing a setting of the Mass for her Senior Capstone Project for SATB Choir, Vocal soloist, harp, and organ which will premiere on February 17, 2024.

Halie also enjoys arranging music for harp ensemble. She has arranged The Avengers (2020), Ashokan Farewell (2021), and Lovely (2022). The Avengers arrangement was performed by the UNT Harpbeats at TMEA (a Texas state-wide conference with over 30,000 attendees) in 2023. UNT Harpbeats is an ensemble that Halie is a part of and loves playing with. In addition to TMEA, Halie has also performed the Star-Spangled Banner at a Chicago White Socks game with nearly 30,000 attendees with the Permian High School Band and Orchestra (2018) and participated and performed at the internationally attended Sterling Bridge Festival in Scotland with Satin Strings (2019).

Today, Halie loves to teach harp and has several beginner students (and is looking to grow her studio). In the future she hopes to learn to teach the Suzuki method and also write harp music for students. She also enjoys playing harp for weddings and other events.
